A Connecticut Yankee |
 | I was born in Hartford. My family lived at 71 Morgan Street. My father established a very successful business called TOTO's Music Store at 505 Front Street. The store was destroyed in a disastrous fire around 1928. We moved to Brooklyn several years later where my father went to work at his cabinet maker's trade. During my high school years I worked in his cabinet shop, called Paramount Art on Highlawn Avenue. Looking back at my boyhood years I realize that I grew up a polyglot, speaking Sicilian with my parents, Italian with non-Sicilian family friends, and English in public. |
